Turkish towels, also known as peshtemals or hammam towels, are traditional textiles from Turkey. Their history dates back to the 17th century during the Ottoman Empire. Originally used in Turkish baths known as hammams, these towels are made from cotton or linen and are highly absorbent, making them ideal for bath, beach, and spa use.
-Material and Weave: Turkish towels are made from high-quality Turkish cotton, known for its long fibers. This cotton is often tightly woven, making the towels more absorbent, soft, and durable over time.
-Weight and Thickness: They are generally lighter and thinner than regular terry cloth towels. This makes them easy to carry, quick to dry, and versatile for different uses, such as a beach wrap, scarf, or blanket.
-Design and Aesthetic: Turkish towels often feature traditional patterns and designs, including stripes and fringes. They come in a wide range of colors and styles, adding a decorative element to their practicality.
-Absorbency and Quick Drying: Despite being thinner, Turkish towels are highly absorbent due to the cotton quality and weave. They also dry faster than regular towels, which reduces the risk of mildew and makes them more convenient for travel or frequent use.
-Versatility: Beyond being used as towels, they are often used as picnic blankets, shawls, or decorative throws due to their attractive designs and lightweight nature.
Turkish towels are made entirely of natural materials, making them gentle on both the skin and the environment. This is because they are free from harsh chemicals and dyes. Our towels are crafted using OEKO-TEX 100 Standard certified natural cotton, linen, and bamboo
-Washing:
1. Wash the towels before the first use to increase absorbency.
2. Use cold or warm water and a mild detergent in gentle cycle. Avoid fabric softeners and bleach, as they can damage the fibers and reduce absorbency.
3. Wash with similar colors to prevent any potential dye transfer.
-Drying:
Air drying is recommended to preserve the towel’s fibers and prevent shrinking. If using a dryer, choose a low-heat setting. Remove the towels from the dryer promptly to minimize wrinkles.
Proper care will help Turkish towels remain soft, absorbent, and long-lasting.
-For longer-lasting colors, iron on the reverse side at medium heat before your first wash.
-Wash in cold water, delicate cycle. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.
-Wash separately. While the dye is stable, some excess dye may wash out after 2-3 washes, softening the kimono's print.
-Always air dry.
-Because of the handmade process, each piece may have slight variations, making every item unique.
